Life on the Farm…. | Nova Scotia Wedding Photographer

You might recognize this gorgeous face from her wedding post a couple weeks ago…and then you might ask yourself….what’s a girl from Canso doing down on the farm?!

Unable to schedule an engagement session ahead of their wedding day, Charlene asked if we could do a “Trash the Dress/Rock the Dress/Rock the Frock” session instead!

It would have been nice if new husband Matt was able to join us for a roll in the hay (!) but he had already headed back to the Prairies, and is patiently awaiting Charlene’s arrival later this week.

A big thank you to Kennvale Farms, in the Annapolis Valley, for allowing us free rein on your amazing property!!

Client Love | Halifax Wedding Photographer

It’s always a bit of a gut-check when I send off a client’s gallery.

Will they love them?

Will they be happy?

I hold my breath.

Hoping.

Nervous.

And then….you get a response like this one from Denise.

“When Dominic and I started planning for our wedding, we faced the challenges of a short time frame and limited knowledge of Halifax and surrounding area.  We knew one thing for sure though, and that was that we wanted to have a wedding where love and laughter was evident in all things.

When we met you that Easter weekend it was love at first sight!  I could not say what we enjoyed the most, the photos you showed us, your enthusiasm in picking out locations for the photo shoots or your personality.  Dominic and I immediately felt at ease with you.  We had so much fun and were so impressed by your excellence not only in your photography but also in your ability to bring out honest emotions and truly enjoy each moment.  What excellent qualities to have as a photographer!  We knew you were the one for us, after only a few hours together.

On the day of the wedding you were phenomenal.  I have heard so many compliements about you from all of our guests!  You were there not just for me and Dominic, but for the wedding party and our guests.  You made me cry with your kind words, you were right in there with the bridesmaids trying to play a joke on Dominic, you braved the rain, you stayed until the very end (although misplacing your keys did not help) and your creativity with the photography had not just us, but our wedding guests excited to see the finished product!

I felt that you were not just our photographer who was there to capture the special moments of our day, but that you shared in our laughter and excitement and that you even helped to bring out the love and laughter that we wanted so much to be evident in all things.

Not only are you responsible for giving us the tangible memories of our wedding day, but you are also a special part of those memories. ”

And then I exhale. ♥

Maria & Aneesh | Nova Scotia Wedding Photographer

If you have been a longtime follower of my site, or have ever seen a copy of my maternity & newborn business card, you may recognize Maria !

I was truly honored when she asked me to shoot her and Aneesh’s wedding this past week in Newfoundland & Labrador….a gorgeous setting for a gorgeous couple. It was my first time to “The Rock”, and also my first time working with Jason Lefrense of JLF Productions. I hope it won’t be the last….for either! You can view the amazing cinematography done by Jason for Maria and Nish’s wedding HERE.

A real quick peek for the happy couple, currently honeymooning in Costa Rica before they both return to medical school in Ireland ♥

An HMCS St. John’s Engagement | Halifax Wedding Photographer

Erin, Rod and I hit the park yesterday afternoon for some gorgeous “golden hour” light and then headed down to the Shipyard where we had the privelege of shooting aboard HMCS St. John’s.

Note to self: next time you are granted permission to shoot in a “no camera” zone…bring ID……and no joking with security.

I’m super stoked to shoot Erin & Rod’s wedding next July…….it’ll be “a time” as they say;)

Big thanks to my buddy Jimmy for being my wingman/assistant on this one. Trying to hold up a 5 ft umbrella, in the gusting wind atop a frigate deck, by myself would have been an interesting sight to behold. I owe you one.

And sidenote…..everyone should look as gorgeous as Erin when they laugh.

Seriously.

Addison Joy Gionet | Halifax Newborn Photographer

There is something extra special when a fellow photographer hires you to shoot their little ones….so when Heather (a wonderful boudoir and wedding photographer in her own right!) first inquired, I was really flattered.

Little Addy (aka “Bean”) made her long awaited arrival a couple of weeks early, much to the delight of her adoring parents. The first grandbaby for both the Crosby and Gionet families, little girl is already living up to her middle name.

Heather and Alex….thank you. Your explicit trust in me spoke volumes, and I hope my images make your hearts swell…..just a teensy bit more. ♥

Baby It’s Cold Outside | Halifax Maternity Photographer

When I first dove into the world of photography, I was a bit backwards from many. Natural light scared me, but strobes were constant and safe. The Strobist website was my bible…. exactly fours years ago this Saturday I was featured on the blog. I received over 35,000 hits to my website and I thought, for certain, I was the cat’s meow. Strobes were the promise land!

One year later, in 2009, I had opened shop…..and sold every single piece of lighting gear (EVERY single piece). I was extoling the virtues and beauty of “all natural, on-location” lighting.  It was silly and shortsighted on my part…..especially given that I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Which brings us to shiny new 2012….and while I have done many, many sessions in the last three years, both in studio and on location, it just occured to me today that Tracie and Scott’s maternity session is the very first that I’ve used both.

If you are looking for variety in your sessions, whether as a client or a photographer…make sure your creative decisions come from a place of personal choice and not personal limitation!
