Fair One | Halifax Newborn Photographer

I’m on a roll lately with awesome baby names! May I introduce to you, Finnian.

Isn’t that an awesome name for a little boy? It’s Gaelic for “fair one”….and suits him entirely. Fair in both complexion and temper, I told his mama that he was the most content awake babe I’d worked with.

Proud sister Sophie was equally as endearing. Quiet, polite and charming, she is so obviously enamored with her role as big sister. She also plays a mean game of ‘I Spy’.

Andrea and Craig, your family was a delight. Thank you for having me. ♥

Introducing Isaiah Pax | Halifax Newborn Photographer

It should come as absolutely NO surprise that Isaiah is gorgeous. You may remember his mama from her maternity session back in March. If she was glowing then, she is positively radiant now.

Isaiah gave me a run for my money….pooping on me….then peeing on me….then pooping on me again. All part of the game for a newborn photographer though, and I am delighted with the end results. ♥

Rollercoaster | Halifax Maternity & Newborn Photographer

A roller coaster.

That is how Leanne and John have described the last 27 weeks and 3 days. In and out of the hospital. Up and down with the bloodpressure. All waiting for Sophie Katherine…..excited to meet her, hoping she’ll come as close to full term as she’s able.

When Leanne contacted me to book her sessions, we originally scheduled the maternity portion for May 23rd. She wasn’t expected to go full term, and wanted to play things safe. That was on April 21st.  Just five days later, I received word that Leanne had been readmitted to the IWK and was worried about not being discharged before the session date. We decided to cross our fingers and play it by ear.  That was the last I had heard, until 2 days ago.  It seemed Sophie was going to make her arrival this weekend! And the mad dash was on….I had to find the time to do this session. I knew it was important to document this part of their 4 year journey.

With a little rescheduling, a little chaos, and the permission of their physicians, John and Leanne were granted an evening pass to come to the studio. As it turns out, things are back on hold, and this strong willed, much wanted and much loved little girl won’t be making her appearance for at least a few more days….I can’t wait to meet you Sophie……and I’m most definitely not the only one ♥

What I Know | Halifax Maternity and Newborn Photographer

With 17 years of  mothering experience, and four children of my own, I know that along with the joys of pregnancy there can also be issues with body image.

I know how it feels when you can’t see your feet….when you’ve named your body pillow because it feels like a permanent fixture in your bed.

I know it’s not particularly exciting to find a new back roll, or to discover a road map on your stomach.

I know that with the excitement and anticipation of new life, the desire to feel beautiful does not dissipate.

I know how overwhelming that first week can be. Ok, that first year.

I know it’s not easy to trust a “stranger” with your pride and joy.

I know how to make you comfortable.

I know the football hold can be a lifesaver when you just can’t rock one more rock.

I know I’m going to get pooped on.

I know that it really is a smile.

I know they will never be this small again.

There are nine sessions available between now and September. If you are expecting and have been thinking about booking a newborn session, or a maternity + newborn combo session, please let me know as soon as possible. I am currently booking 6-8 weeks out.

The best time to schedule your maternity portraits is at the 30-32 week point (a bit earlier for twins!), and your newborn session takes place ideally between 5-10 days after delivery! I come to your home, and bring everything I need. It might feel like I’m moving in, but I get the job done;)
