Julite & David | Halifax Wedding Photographer

I loved this wedding…..for several reasons.

When Liam (Applehead Studio) told me that Julite and David had opted for a “First Look” before the ceremony, I so was excited! In case you aren’t familiar with it, a “First Look” is when the bride and groom choose to have their formal portraits done prior to the ceremony. It allows them to really absorb the moment, and really really LOOK at each other. It was something incredible to stand back and photograph such an intimate moment. The look on David’s face the moment he  he saw Julite was intoxicating.

The other thing I was really looking forward to was meeting Avril Mulholland of Update Events. I was familiar with her work, but had yet to see it, or her, in person. I can truly say, I was not disappointed. The reception at this wedding, was hands down the most beautiful I’d ever had the pleasure of attending. Every last detail was letter perfect.

I was  once again able to second shoot for Applehead Studio, when Kitty and James were married this past September. It was a gorgeous Fall day, and they held their reception at the deCoste Centre in Pictou. I’d never been before, and if you’re looking for a great venue with a ton of seating, you should really check it out.

When I made the decision to jump back into the wedding game, after taking several years off to focus on my  maternity/newborn/family work, I knew it was important to freshen up my skills.

A wedding day is too important, with too many “one shot’s all ya got” moments to just assume I could pick up where I left off.  And let’s be serious. I didn’t WANT to pick up where I left off. I have way more knowledge, skill, and *ahem*,  life experience to bring to the table this time. So what’s a girl to do?

Be grateful that she’s great friends with one of the top wedding photographers in the province, that’s what. One mention that I was seriously considering the 2011 wedding season, and my buddy Liam Hennessey, of Applehead Studios, asked if I’d like to shoot alongside him for several of his late summer weddings.

It was fabulous, and I want to publicly thank him, and his couples, for so graciously allowing me to share their days on such short notice.

In talking to Liam just this week, he asked how I would describe my style. It’s not an easy question when you really think about it, difficult to sound genuine at times. We’ve all heard the buzz words, and I think we have all used them at some point….but if I had to sum it up, I would say “Modern Classic”.  A complete oxy-moron, and completly suited. Go figure. Would you agree?

I’ll be blogging a few more weddings over the coming week, and have a booth at this Sunday’s Atlantic Wedding Showcase , booth #30, stop by and say hi!

Ok, enough about me….on with the pretty stuff.

Why hello there 2011…..nice to meet you! I think you and I are going to get along  just fine.

Little Miss Mikayla decided to arrive a few days early and enjoy her very first Christmas at just 5 days old! Unfortunately that meant I didn’t get to spend some time with her until later than I typically like, but once she had a full belly she was putty in my hands.
